In search of my Ancestors.

updated march 2008 I am keeping this story below as was,even though it was written in 2000. I have had a fantastic time searching and finding many,many family members since the sites birth,i thought it would be a good idea to leave the story as is. So you can see how over the years things have changed,in so much as finding another 4 generations i now have 8 generations of confirmed family,and several more im working on at present. It would be great to hear from you with positive feedback if the site has helped you in any way.Enjoy looking through my years of research :) Story below originally written in 2000/2002 ******************************** Well,since i wrote this page a couple of years ago,i have had the most wonderful success. I have found 2 fantastic brothers,i had never met Harry and John,many cousins,living in many countries(holidays are sorted for years!)and i have lost count of the many friends i have made along the way. Its been nearly 6 years that my brothers found me,and its been 6 glorious years of joy. I love instant messenging and the phone calls,they get me through my week.lol. What joy!!. Its a shame we werent together as children,but we are now,and thats all that matters !. Some have got in touch who share my Dubber Surname,others who just love to trace extended family etc,etc.. Though i have pictures,i cannot use them without their permission.as im a great believer in personal privacy. Also,i have pieced together now 4 Generations back from us of our family,including when born,what they did,how many siblings ,how many paupers,criminals,famous Dubbers. Its been a huge labour of love,and a fantastic journey. I have got more Certifictes of births,marriages deaths etc,than your local registrars office. And I have learnt things about our family,i would never have known. Obviously im sharing a bit of the things i have found by having this site,knowing how hard finding any info on many unusual names is. Dubbers in U.k being one of those names!. Which was how i found several family members. However even though i have a lot here,its obvious that i am not at the stage to make our family history an open book,and i have so much documentation etc. I could never get it all in,but as i say time and again,if you want to find anything out about my Dubber clan, to see if your related to my lot,and mostly we are!. I now know that the Dubber surname is NOT rare as i first thought,and Dubbers are every where and most are still related to us. Thanks to all my Dubber Relations from all over the world for adding info,and helping me with my resaerch,but mostly for being a proper family to me. It is so hard to search for family members,when your history has been hidden from you. I was bought up in a household,where family feuds were part of life. My fathers relationships with his family;were very complex,which has left me with a very confusing picture of who i am and where the heck i belong. I never met any of them apart from AUNTY WINN(or wynn) and AUNTY KATE. Aunt kate died when i was small. I have a lovely photo of my Aunty Kate now. She is shown tending my grandparents grave. Thank you so much cousin Sarah for the amazing pictures of my family. Im very grateful. :) Also Dad had among the 14 children in his family,sisters,as above and Dorothy,Hilda,Florence,and Lillian. And boys including John Edward,George alfred who was born 6months after my grandparents married,they married march 1907,and he was born ,exactly 6months later,second born was my aunty Elsie,named Elsie Florence the following year. I have many birth ,death,and marriage certificates,and if you have an interest i will gladly email you scanned copies in return for information etc. My father .was born in 1912,on february 20th,his birth certificate says it was 25 lancaster road portsmouth. The address is no longer in existance.the whole street is no longer there in fact. The whole street was bombed out in WW2,i have found out since first writing this page. My dads father was called GEORGE ALFRED,and his mum was FLORENCE.i have this info on his birth certificate I am just trying to get a picture of who was who in my family. I know that it`s a huge family,but spread throughout hampshire. theres so little on the internet i have been to everysite i can find to no avail. My family are from both PORTSMOUTH and PORTSEA ISLAND,and spread out as they grew and married. I cannot be sure who im looking for as dad kept this very quiet,now hes passed on i want to find my heritage. I am just certain that All DUBBERS in hampshire are related in one way or other, as its a rare name andall my research has shown this,my dads dad was one of many,many kids,i just dont know how many. If you can help ,please let me know,i feel like im hitting a brick wall at this moment. We were bought up in leigh park (MIDDLE PARK WAY) I have found 2brothers,and so many first and second cousins since starting this site,i can say it was so worth doing. I have even found out from my Aunties and Uncles children things i had no idea about from my family. Its been totally awesome,and the hard work has paid off tenfold. So if your thinking of doing a website to find family,my advice is go for it!. You cant lose anything by it,and if your lucky you can only gain and possibly find family you thought lost or that you never knew you had.Good luck!!.
