Brindle-at-War records the involvement
of men and women from one small
Lancashire village in conflicts
over the centuries. From the Civil
War to the Cold War and during two
World Wars - be they on our doorstep
or in “a foreign field”.
Brindlers have fought in the
U.K., Continental Europe and Asia
over the last 500 years - from the
trenches in Belgium to the jungles
of Burma. They have been involved
in many moments in history – from
Flodden in 1513 to the Boxer Rebellion
in China in 1900, from The Battle
of the Somme on the 1st July 1916
to the D-Day landings on the 6th
June 1944.
This website attempts to record
Brindle’s military history, with
the First and Second World Wars
featuring heavily. It is dedicated
to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice,
never to return to their village.
