Somerset Military Museum tells the story of the Somerset’s regiments in war and peace. It features the history of the following regiments:

· Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s)
· Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry
· West Somerset Yeomanry
· North Somerset Yeomanry
· Somerset Militia, Rifle Volunteers and Territorials
· The Light Infantry and its successor regiment, The Rifles

The gallery introduces visitors to the formation and development of Somerset’s regiments and explores why soldiers fight for their country.

The regimental archives of the Somerset Light Infantry, as well as some North and West Somerset Yeomanry records, are held at the Somerset Heritage Centre.

Gallery update: The painting, ‘Remnants of an Army’ by Lady Elizabeth Butler has returned to Tate Britain, London, where it will be going on display to the public (26/7/2022)
